MLB Premium Picks 4/2/19 (3 Picks)
Colorado Rockies vs Tampa Bay Rays (7:10 PM)
Reigning AL Cy Young winner Blake Snell (0-1, 7.50 ERA) and the Tampa Bay Rays (4-1) take on Kyle Freeland (1-0, 1.29 ERA) and the Colorado Rockies (2-3) tonight. The Rockies have lost three straight after starting the season 2-0, and the Rays are off to a better start than many would have expected, including winning four in a row.
The Rays only loss this season came in Snell’s opening day start against Justin Verlander and the Houston Astros. Snell has a bit of a rough outing, pitching six innings and giving up five earned runs and only striking out three. Since Opening Day ended, the Rays have been winning with some of the best pitching in baseball, only giving up five runs in the last four games.
The Rays bullpen has only allowed one run in 21 innings.
Kyle Freeland is coming off a great season as well, going 17-7 with a 2.85, which is even more impressive considering he calls Coors Field home. Freeland opened the season with a great outing against the Miami Marlins, allowing only two hits through seven innings.
Both team’s offenses have been a little stagnant so far this season. Look for Snell to bounce back to his Cy Young form today, and Freeland will pitch equally as well. This will be a low scoring affair will probably end up a one-run game. Total runs scored in this one will be around 4-5.
Key Info: -The total has gone UNDER in six of the Rockies’ last nine games. -The total has gone UNDER in the Rays’ last five games. -Tampa Bay is 20th in runs scored this season, the Rockies 23rd.
Best pick is UNDER 7 -115
Philadelphia Phillies vs Washington Nationals (7:05 PM)

Bryce Harper returns home today and his first at-bat will be an interesting one. What will we hear more of, boos or cheers? Personally, I think he deserves a standing ovation. They may not have had a great deal of success in Harper's tenure in Washington, but he still provided them with plenty of memorable moments and excitement, it isn't one single player's fault that a team can't win a playoff series. The fact that he left Washington may have left a sour taste in some fan's mouths, but let's be honest, it just wasn't working out, both parties needed a change and to move on to better things.
Scherzer will be on the mound today, but even though he is one of the best pitchers in baseball, this Phillies team is scary. A +162 value is way too good to pass up. Scherzer will probably have another great outing, but if the Phillies can get to him for two or more runs and get him out of the game sometime in the 6th or 7th inning, that will be a victory for the Phillies. In my opinion, if anytime can tear Scherzer apart at this point in the season it is the Phillies, so perhaps they can hit him harder and bounce him earlier. As we have seen from the Nats bullpen, no lead is safe and I think once the Nats hit the pen, the Phillies will pile on the runs.
The Phillies are 4th in the league in runs scored and 4th in walks, while the Nationals are 15th in runs scored and 29th in walks. The Nats also have struck out the third most in baseball on a per game basis. The Phillies offense is far superior to the Nationals, and I think that they can get to Scherzer today and that will let Phillies pitcher Zach Elfin pitch a comfortable game.
Elfin pitches above his standard, Scherzer below his. Harper doesn't have a great game, but the rest of the Phillies lineup will be the story here offensively. Rhys Hoskins has a big game for the Phillies, who win this game outright, with a score somewhere in the range of 5-2.
